I wouldn’t call much about what I do ‘delicate.’ I walk around all day using tools (that could chop off any of your limbs with a minute slip-up) to build sometimes monstrous wood and metal furniture. I do this every day in Pittsburgh - the Steel City, the city of Champions - while turning around and selling what I build for profit.
That being said, sometimes the projects I take on do require some serious care and a bit of a delicate touch. I’ve found that welding with pinkies up and sanding tabletops in my Sunday best usually does the trick, but I’ve also always needed an impact driver that I can trust on my most time-consuming builds. I was excited when Home Depot came to me asking to review the Makita 18V LXT® Lithium‑Ion Brushless Cordless Quick‑Shift Mode™ 4‑Speed Impact Driver because I heard that this thing was designed for guys like me who sometimes need that delicate touch but aren’t willing to sacrifice power. And let’s just say, the Makita Quick-Shift Impact Driver really surpassed my expectations.

The first thing I noticed about the Makita 18V LXT Brushless Quick-Shift 4-Speed Impact Driver was how powerful it is. With 1,550 in. libs. Of fastening torque and 3,600 RPM, this thing is the real deal despite its tiny size. Ergonomics are really important to me, so being able to pack that much power into my projects in such a small, easy to maneuver impact driver was a huge deal for me. The Makita 18V Impact Driver is perfect for reaching around under tables to anchor in handmade legs or putting finishing touches on some of my tiniest projects.
Much like me - many times referred to as a ‘gentle giant’ - this power has its gentle side. The Makita 18V LXT Brushless Quick-Shift 4-Speed Impact Driver is equipped with quick-shift mode to minimize screw thread stripping, screw breakage, and damage to my projects. Additional tightening mode (or T-mode) helps prevent damage to the screw or project while tightening. These features are absolute game-changers for me because I’m frequently working with really expensive live-edge slabs and the like, which means I need to take a little extra caution when tightening so I don’t split my wood.
On top of this perfect mix of power and grace, this thing has up to 50% longer run time and 3x faster charging thanks to a LXT Lithium-ion battery. In the batteries are star protection computer controls that allow for real-time data exchange to prevent overloading, over-discharging, and overheating of the battery. Not only does this increase the battery like, and decrease charging time, but gives me the peace of mind knowing that this tool has the smart capabilities to keep itself running like a charm.
I have faith that the features in the Makita 18V LXT Brushless Quick-Shift 4-Speed Impact Driver make it one of the most durable, easy-to-use impact drivers on the market. Additionally, everyone needs a solid impact driver because it’s super applicable across almost any project, so it’s an investment worth making.
I really think the Makita 18V LXT Brushless Quick-Shift 4-Speed Impact Driver is one of the better impact drivers I’ve used. I trust that this thing will last for years and years while supplying me the perfect balance of power, torque, and smart capabilities needed to ensure a high-quality job at the end of a project. Plus, the Makita 18V LXT Brushless Quick-Shift 4-Speed Impact Driver is competitively priced among other great brands, making it an easy choice to grab the next time you’re at Home Depot.
