The need for every type of shop, woodworking , mechanics, metal, tinkerer, DIY, etc. to own a ratchet set is critical. It is one of those tools that when you dont have it you always seem to kick yourself. Now me personally, I like nice things. I have had a cheap mechanics set in the shop for years and finally blew threw it. So it was time to upgrade. Because im not a full time mechanic, investing in Snap-on was out of the question. So I was very excited to see the improvements in the new Husky Universal Mechanics Tool Set. With some major improvements in ergonomics and functionality i was pleasantly surprised with this tool set. I also love the industrial black look of the tools as well.

Husky really took it to the next level with this 105 piece set. The Husky Universal Mechanics Tool Set includes their 100 position Dual-pawl technology the set provides incredible access to bolts and nuts that are typically very difficult for other ratchets. The long handle, low profile ratchet has a 3.6° arc swing which is incredible for small places. The set itself comes with both SAE and Metric and has laser etched markings on the black finish to clearly label each size. The tools are forged from chromium-vanadium (Cr-V) steel for outstanding durability and strength and come with a LIFETIME WARRANTY. Yes, i said it. Lifetime. This for me was a huge selling point. The set also comes with wrenches that feature a surface grip open-end design that provides 80% more grip and reduces the founding of fasteners which is another really cool feature.
The Husky Universal Mechanics 105 Piece Set comes with the following

PRICE:
The Husky Universal Mechanics Tool Set comes in at $169.00 for the full 105 piece set including a blow molded case with size markings for each specific tool with raised identification marks for each organization. Now this price can seem hefty for a ratchet set that isn't made my Snap-on or one of its sister brands. But as I stated earlier, when you're not a full time mechanic, you have no need for tools of that caliber. It would be like owning a Ferrari and not knowing how to drive a stick shift. But for the large majority of us, we want to own quality tools that will withstand the test of time. With the inclusion of the lifetime warranty on this set, I think the price point is perfect. At slightly over $1.60 per tool I think this is a reasonable investment for any adamant DIY'er and Professional "maker".
MY THOUGHTS
Ratchet/Mechanics sets are quite common. when you're in the market for one it seems like there is endless options from dozens of brands. But what it comes down to is how you're going to be using the tools yourself. If you're a professional mechanic or machine shop, who uses these tools day in and day out you're going to want the highest of quality. But if you're someone who maybe grabs their set once or twice a week for light duty work, you're going to want a set that is well made but not going to break the bank. For my uses, this set is right in line with that. I don't need it for every day application, but when I do need it, I want something reliable and quality. So for that, I think the tools are great for anyone looking to invest in a very very solid mechanics set. As I have said numerous times in this review as well, You cannot beat the fact it has a Lifetime Warranty as well!
