If you’ve been keeping up with this quarter, then you already saw my review for the Dremel 12-Volt Cordless Rotary Tool. In that post, I talked about how cordless is one of the things companies are striving for in the tool world, but that does not mean it is your only or best option. I present you with the DREMEL Saw-Max Corded Tool Kit. It was definitely cool that Home Depot included both of these this quarter because I got to compare the two pretty much side by side and really evaluate the pros and cons of each.

DREMEL Tool Kit

SPECIFICATIONS:

The DREMEL Corded Rotary Tool Kit is ideal for cutting, sanding, grinding, drilling, carving, and more. This really is a versatile tool that can be used for a variety of projects. One of the advantages to this over the cordless model is that the DREMEL Corded Rotary Tool offers Dremel’s most powerful 1.8 Amp motor for maximum performance. This does put it ahead of the cordless model power wise, so if power is more important to you then having a cordless tool, you definitely will want to invest in this model. Another advantage to the DREMEL Corded Rotary Tool Kit is that it includes an array of accessories including a removable pivot light that aren’t offered in the cordless bundle. The mounted light really is just an added bonus and could be very useful if you’re sanding or grinding something small or extremely detailed. Another great perk of the pivot light is that it’s removable so if you don’t need it, you can take it off as opposed to it getting in the way or adding unwanted light. Some of the accessories that aren’t among the 40 included accessories, but that you can buy to accompany the DREMEL Saw-Max Corded Tool Kit I have listed below

DREMEL Corded Rotary Too
  • Flex-Shaft Attachment
  • This 36 in. long cable with 5 in. bend radius for flexibility is a great attachment to have. Not only can you use it with the DREMEL Corded Rotary Tool Kit but you can also throw it on any of your other Dremel rotary tools. Like I mentioned in my blog post for the DREMEL Cordless Rotary tool, both that and the DREMEL Corded Rotary Tool are great for small projects and this attachment is designed to help you with polishing, wood carving, and engraving.  I definitely think anyone who is doing small scale wood working or engraving projects should invest in this attachment.
  • EZ Lock Sanding and Polishing Mini Kit
  • Like the flex shaft attachment, the EZ lock sanding and polishing mini kit can be used with any DREMEL rotary tool. That’s one of the things I like about all of these DREMEL attachments is that they work with the various rotary tools, so if you have a cordless one to take to job sites but the corded one for the shop, you can use the accessory kits on both. The EZ Lock Sanding and Polishing Mini Kit helps you clean, polish, smooth, or restore materials. Definitely something to look into for an avid DIY’er who does a lot of sanding or refinishing. This accessory pack includes 7 EZ lock sanding and polishing accessories, giving you the most bang for your buck.
  • EZ Lock and Drum Sanding/Grinding Rotary Kit
  • Once again, this accessory kit is versatile. It can be used on all DREMEL rotary tools, and is ideal for sanding and grinding applications. The EZ Lock and Drum Sanding/Grinding Rotary Kit includes 2 mandrels, 6 sanding discs, 2 grinding stones, and more.
  • EZ Lock Cut Off Wheel Set for Metal and Plastic
  • The last accessory kit I am going to talk about is the DREMEL EZ Lock Cut Off Wheel Set for Metal and Plastic. If you didn’t already guess, this can be used with any and all DREMEL Rotary tools. This kit includes 10 wheels and 1 mandrel for metal and plastic cutting. Another bonus feature this accessory kit has is that all the wheels are labeled for easy application identification.

Overall, this is a great tool to have. I personally think that with the added power, and the accessories included in the corded model, you’re getting more for your money then with the cordless model, but that’s just me.

PRICING:

Price wise, this thing really isn’t too expensive. With the DREMEL Corded Rotary Tool Kit coming in at $99 you really get your moneys worth when you think about all of the accessories that are included in this bundle. I mean it does come with 40 accessories and 5 other attachments.  In regards to the pricing of the extra accessory kits that I mentioned above, they all are reasonable priced (listed below), and keep in mind that a lot of these accessory kits can be used for multiple projects so you don’t necessarily need all of them to make the most of your DREMEL Saw-Max Corded Tool Kit

MY THOUGHTS:

I have never been a heavy user of any DREMEL tool. But that being said, the minute this showed up in my shop I immediately found a use for it grinding some very subtle welds on a piece of furniture I was working on. These tools are invaluable when you think about using them. I am loving having the accessory kit and also the Flex-Shaft attachment most importantly, it makes using the tool feel like a big pencil! DIY'ers and pros are always looking for easy solutions for small issues in the shop, and with a tool that is as versatile as this one, its almost a no brainer. Huge value add to anyone IMO, I am finding new ways to use the DREMEL Corded Rotary Tool and Accessories almost daily!
