So now you're in the home stretch.

You have established your passion, your brand concept is rolling, you're becoming more comfortable with sharing your process and your photographs on social media, and you are building a client book. Congrats.....

But don't go patting yourself on the back yet, because the real struggle is still yet to come. I told you this shit was hard. Now listen to me. Investing in your dream is a HUGE part of the process. If you want to be treated like a business, you have to act like one. A real business isn't some side gig. Its a daily grind and handling tons of moving parts every day.

I bet you all thought this blog would be about what tools to invest in, how much to spend and save, where to go for materials..... well you thought wrong. We aren't even close to that yet.

Investing in your dream is more than just financially, it all leads back to your mentality. From the beginning you have believed in who you are and what you're doing. Being passionate will not win when it comes to doing business, if it did.... a lot less small business's would fail.

You need to start taking time to invest in the parts of the business outside of the physical workshop. I want you to pick up some literature on marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship. In order to run a business for yourself you have to be able to handle all the day to day of running a full business. As we did before, I want you to invest in the skills it takes to handle those tasks.

Marketing, media, customer relations, sales funneling, accounting, book keeping, social, material sourcing, design, and the list goes on. The amount of roles in a small business are almost endless, but titles don't mean shit. You need to be prepared for chaos and for when things go wrong. Invest some time in learning about these parts of growing your own business. This moment will tell you if you are seriously ready to work for yourself. Because let me tell you, if it was as easy as just gluing sticks in my basement I would be drinking a cold one on a beach writing this and not up at 6am before i get my day started.

Here are some amazing resources I personally use and find help me "invest" in myself and my business.

Books

  1. Jab,Jab,Jab, Right Hook - Gary Vaynerchuk
  2. #ASKGARYVEE - Gary Vaynerchuk
  3. Content Inc. - Joe Pulizzi
  4. Tribes - Seth Godin
  5. 6 Months To 6 Figures - Peter Voogd

Podcasts

  1. The #AskGaryVee Show - Gary Vaynerchuk
  2. Smart Passive Income Podcast - Pat Flynn
  3. Social Media Pubcast - Jon Loomer
  4. Pro Blogger - Darren Rowse

These are just a few resources to get you and your business mind rolling. I put a lot of time into this aspect of growing my business and my brand. I invest time every day to listen to a podcast, read books and blogs, or listen to audio books. These skills and tidbits will drastically help you prepare to take your business to the next level.
