Because I love yinz so much, I dropped part 2 of my EPIC deck-building series as fast as I could. During this build, I dodged some rain, used some huge tools, and had a total blast framing up the deck. Overall, turning this huge black canvas into the beginnings of a deck platform was extremely rewarding.
So follow me as I take on my most challenging build yet! If you’re following along at home or want to try it out for yourself, be sure to take a look at my video below.
The night before the big build, my backyard got dunked on by heavy rain. So before I started, I needed to do some cleaning. Before framing the deck, I also needed to put down some felt paper to prevent weeds from growing in. Then, I needed to top it with gravel to keep the deck nice and clean. For the posts, my team laid out some brackets in a straight line using some strings and math. Then, I rough cut my three large beams to size before leveling and squaring everything off of them.
The following day, the rain came again and completely kicked our asses. But that didn’t stop us from adding concrete to the walkway, getting the joist handers up, and building the beams.
